Diwali Decoration Shopping List for Your Home (2026)
Everything to source, room by room, and what to buy fresh on Diwali eve.
Diwali sourcing goes wrong in two ways: buying too late, when the good pieces are gone and prices jump, or buying fresh flowers too early. This list follows the way we plan our own Diwali decoration packages: by area of the home, with a note on what to buy fresh on the eve of Lakshmi Puja (8 November 2026).
Entrance and main door
- Main-door toran (marigold or artificial)
- Vertical ladis on both sides of the door, and door-side latkans
- Shubh-Labh and Lakshmi footprint stickers
- Rangoli colours or a ready rangoli mat
- Fresh entrance flowers: buy these on Diwali eve, not earlier
Lighting
- Clay diyas, with oil or ghee and wicks
- LED string lights for windows and the balcony
- Decorative lanterns or akash kandil
- An urli with floating candles and flowers for the living room
Mandir and puja area
- Mandir backdrop or toran, and a diya stand
- Puja samagri: kalash, haldi-kumkum, rice, incense, camphor, betel leaves and nuts
- Malas for the mandir, walls, doors and pillars
When to buy what
Artificial decor, lights and samagri can be bought two to three weeks ahead. Fresh marigold and other flowers should be bought on the eve or the morning of the puja. Book any help for setting up the decoration early, because the week before Diwali is the busiest of the year for decorators.
